How to Play Impostor Room
Impostor Room is a fast, free online party game for 3 or more friends. It's a social-deduction game in the tradition of Spyfall and Werewolf — one player is secretly the impostor, and everyone else has to sniff them out.
Setup
One player taps Create Room and shares the 5-letter code. Everyone else opens the site on their own phone, enters the code, and picks a name. No accounts, no downloads. Prefer one device? Use Local Mode to pass the phone around.
Roles
When the host starts the round, everyone privately sees their role:
- Civilians all see the same secret word.
- The Impostor sees only that they are the impostor — no word.
Giving Clues
Players take turns saying one word that hints at the secret without giving it away. Civilians want their clues to be recognizable to other civilians but too vague for the impostor to latch onto. The impostor listens and tries to say something that fits the vibe.
Voting
After clues, everyone discusses and votes. If the group ejects the impostor, civilians win. If they eject an innocent player — or run out of rounds — the impostor wins.
Strategy Tips
- Civilians: too specific and the impostor copies you; too vague and you look suspicious. Aim for the middle.
- Impostor: echo the theme of earlier clues without repeating a word. Confidence sells it.
- Watch who hesitates. First-round hesitation is usually the impostor stalling.
